Advice for Cleaning up After a Flood

3/27/23

Rain and flooding hit Yavapai County hard last week. Those folks whose homes and property were impacted by flood waters are now in cleanup mode. The Yavapai County Flood Control District has some advice on cleaning up after a flood. First is to throw out all items soaked by flood waters that cannot be cleaned with a bleach solution. These include mattresses, pillows, carpeting, and stuffed toys. Any drywall and insulation that has come into contact with flood waters should also be thrown out. It’s also a good idea to save samples of carpeting, wallpaper, and window treatments in case you need to make an insurance claim. When cleaning up after a flood, be sure to wear protective gear like gloves, boots, eye protection, and a mask.
