Monsoon season officially begins Thursday for Arizona. Not only do you have to be concerned with heavy rains, but also lightning. The National Lightning Safety Council reports ten people have been killed by lightning in Arizona since 2013, making it one of the top ten states in the country in terms of lightning-related fatalities. Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority reminds everyone to be aware of storms in our area. When a thunderstorm is approaching, postpone any outdoor activities you have planned and seek shelter indoors. CAFMA officials say if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Be sure to stay tuned to KYCA’s weather reports as we move into monsoon season.
