The defense of their state championship did not begin the way the Chino Valley Boys Soccer team wanted. The Cougars traveled to Snowflake Tuesday for their season opener. It was a close battle throughout, but the game ended in a 2-1 loss for Chino. Jackson Bishop scored the lone goal for the cougars. Chino Valley looks to rebound tomorrow when they play their first home game of 2023. They face Round Valley at 3:45 p.m. Next Thursday, the Cougars are on the road to take on Show Low. 

Also on Tuesday, the Embry-Riddle Men’s Soccer team went down to Phoenix for a match with Arizona Christian. After scoring six goals in their season opener versus University of Providence last Saturday, the Eagles struggled offensively and were shutout by the Firestorm 1-nil. Riddle is now 1-1 on the season. They are at Southern Oregon this Saturday.
