DH Town Council to Explore Iron King Cleanup Options

4/5/23

The recent town hall with the EPA regarding the Iron King Mine superfund site was a success. That’s what Dewey-Humboldt town officials declared at Tuesday’s town council meeting. The reason for that is because EPA officials had to acknowledge a variety of things that have to occur for the cleanup of the site to go forward. One is the need for more study of the soil and groundwater in and around the Iron King Mine site. There are five options for cleaning up the site that the town council must go over before making a final decision on the matter. In addition, the town council discussed the timetable for filling the vacant council seat. Eleven people have submitted applications for the position. The council agreed to pick the new council member at its April 18th meeting and swear them in that same night.
