Driver in Custody for Accident on I-17 Near Black Canyon City

The driver of a tractor trailer that crashed on I-17 near Black Canyon City Thursday, trapping many drivers overnight in the southbound lane, is in the hospital and facing criminal charges. The Department of Public Safety reports the driver, who has not been identified at this time, walked away from the accident scene. DPS troopers eventually found the driver after he knocked on the door of a residence in Black Canyon City. DPS officials say the driver is suspected of being under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash. He is facing charges of driving while impaired and leaving the scene of an accident.
