FOREST SERVICE UNDERWAY WITH THINNING PROJECT ON VERDE RANGER DISTRICT
10/25/23
Prescott National Forest crews are using heavy equipment to thin approximately 4,565 acres of the Racetrack Mastication project on the Verde Ranger District. Beginning this week and continuing for approximately 10 months, a contractor will work on the Black Hills Vegetation Management Project, located on national forest lands on the east and west sides of Cherry Road, north of Highway 169.
Although no area or road closures are expected, the public should avoid the project area if equipment is operating. Approaching such equipment is very dangerous as the operator may not see you.
Completion of this project will improve the health and resiliency of fire-adapted ecosystems while simultaneously reducing hazardous fuels that pose a threat to life and property in the Wildland-Urban Interface.
