Former YC Basketball Player to Head up Police Training Academy

A graduate of Yavapai College has come back to the school to take over the Northern Arizona Regional Training Academy. Gareth Braxton-Johnson was recently appointed commander of the academy, which trains police recruits. Braxton-Johnson is currently a patrol commander for the Cottonwood Police Department. During his tenure with the department, he earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from NAU and a graduate certificate in criminal justice education from the University of Virginia. Braxton-Johnson served with the Scottsdale Police Department for six years before coming to work for the Cottonwood police. He attended Yavapai College from 1993 to 1995, and was a player on the men’s basketball team.
