Jewelry for Gas Scam in PV and Dewey

11/17/22

If someone offers you jewelry in exchange for gas money, chances are that jewelry is fake. The Prescott Valley Police Department reports eight people have come forward in the past two weeks saying they encountered individuals at gas stations offering pieces of jewelry stamped either 14 or 18 karots in exchange for enough money to fill up their tanks. The victims later discovered the jewelry was just brass with gold plating. These incidents have been reported in both Prescott Valley and Dewey. Prescott Valley police urge everyone not to be taken in by this scam. Anyone with information on these incidents should call PVPD at 928-772-9267 or Yavapai Silent Witness at 1-800-932-3232.
