Mountain Lion Attacks Dogs in Prescott

5/4/23

Prescott police are warning folks to beware of mountain lions within the city. On April 20th and 21st, a mountain lion reportedly killed two small dogs in the area of West Rosser Street and Granite Springs Drive. One of the attacks was partially caught on a ring camera. On Wednesday morning, other ring cameras in Prescott captured images of another mountain lion and a bear. So far, there have been no reports of aggressive actions by mountain lions or bears toward people in the city. Still, Prescott Animal Control is urging everyone to not feed wildlife. Leaving food in your yard could attract animals like deer and javelina, which could in turn attract mountain lions on the hunt for them. If you do encounter a mountain lion, do not run. Instead, make loud noises and try to make yourself appear bigger to get the mountain lion to retreat.
