The Forest Service will resume constuction work combined with the clean-up of six abandoned mines located near Cherry Creek in the Verde Ranger District.

The affected mines include the Black Hawk Mine, Golden Idol Mine, Black Hawk, Bunker Mine, Logan Mine and Uncle Sam Mine. All the mines produced gold and silver but the mines have been closed since the 1940’s. Since then, the mine waste and other hazard materials have gotten into the surrounding areas causing water shed issues and risk to wildlife.

The clean up begins in December with a completion date in 2023.
