Prescott Area U.S. Rep Eli Crane Votes Against McCarthy for Speaker
California Republican Congressman Kevin McCarthy failed to get the nod for Speaker of the House Tuesday, and the Prescott area’s new U.S. representative had something to do with it. Eli Crane was one of 19 GOP representatives to vote against McCarthy on the first ballot. Crane defeated Tom O’Halleran in the race for the newly redrawn Congressional District Two back in November. Also voting against McCarthy was the Prescott area’s former U.S. representative, Paul Gosar. Another Arizona congressman, Andy Biggs, also went against McCarthy. Many of those opposed to McCarthy’s nomination as house speaker threw their support behind Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan.
