Three Prescribed Burns This Week in Prescott National Forest
4/17/23
Crews from the Prescott National Forest plan to conduct three prescribed burns in the Bradshaw and Verde Ranger districts this week. The Springs RX burn on Mingus Mountain begins Tuesday and will target 250 acres. The Strawberry RX burn, also on Mingus Mountain, is scheduled to begin either Tuesday or Thursday depending on weather conditions. That will cover 690 acres. The Crater RX burn near the Powell Springs Campground takes place either Thursday or Friday, pending favorable weather conditions. This will target 117 acres of land. Smoke from these burns will be visible to surrounding communities. These prescribed burns are designed to remove hazardous fuels to reduce the risk of a catastrophic wildfire and to improve the overall health of the forest.
