YCSO INMATES HELP OUT AT YAVAPAI COUNTY FAIR

9/8/23

INMATES WHO QUALIFY FOR WORK DETAIL IN THE YAVAPAI COUNTY JAILS ARE ASSISTING THE COUNTY FAIR COMMITTEE WITH THE SET UP AND THE CLEAN-UP DUTIES FOR THE FAIR THIS WEEKEND.

SIX INMATES PER DAY WILL WORK IN EIGHT-HOUR SHIFTS FOR 12 DAYS OF SET-UP DUTIES AND SIX DAYS OF CLEAN UP AFTER THE FAIR IS OVER. THE FAIR COMMITTEE WILL SAVE 864 MAN-HOURS OF LABOR THAT WOULD’VE HAD TO HAVE BEEN PAID.

USE OF INMATE WORKERS SERVES MULTIPLE PURPOSES, INCLUDING ALLOWING INMATES TO PROVIDE A COMMUNITY SERVICE, GIVING THEM A SENSE OF PURPOSE.

THE USE OF INMATE WORKERS IS NOT A NEW CONCEPT, BUT YCSO’S POLICY IS TO PARTNER ONLY WITH NON-PROFIT AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, TO ASSIST THEM IN SAVING THEIR MUCH-NEEDED FUNDING BY NOT HAVING TO PAY FOR THE SERVICES THAT THE INMATES CAN PROVIDE. ALL INMATES INCARCERATED IN YCSO JAILS ARE THOSE SERVING NON-VIOLENT MISDEMEANOR SENTENCES.
